I love this site. Have I said that already?
I'm working more since I've become a member than ever before. One of the hardest things for me to learn, is that I can write. And the more I write, the better I'll become at writing.
My biggest enemy was fear. For me, it was the fear that it would not be perfect the first time. And it never was, I've had to accept the fact that it never will be. Hard lesson--Lots of wasted time. I think part of the reason (if not all) that I was such a procrastinator is that I was a closet perfectionist. I decided, I will strive toward my ideal of perfection. I've got a long row to hoe. But, with the help of this site, as they say: many hands make light work.
I'm working on a time travel novel as well as several short stories. Haven't decided what I'll post in my group Monday. _________________ wwwbess-scretsofaprocrastinator.blogspot.com

Time travel stories always facsinate me... probably because I would love to do some of it myself! _________________ Sometimes I think it's a shame when I get feeling better when I'm feeling no pain. |

Well, It seems that I've hit a snag in the short story I'm posting Monday for my writer's group. I want an ending that would be different than what one would assume as the reader. I'm hitting a brick wall. Hope I have something by tomorrow. _________________ wwwbess-scretsofaprocrastinator.blogspot.com

I'm ashamed of myself. I just finished arguing with a child about religion. I know better! Think I'll re-direct all the angry energy into something constructive. I'm going to work on another short story. I think I'll take Charles and Ran's advise and write about more of my childhood pranks, then add them to The Dare, and make them into a children's book.
It might not be a Harry Potter, but maybe it will be good enough to publish. _________________ wwwbess-scretsofaprocrastinator.blogspot.com

I grew up in a rural area in Florence County, South Carolina. My Grandfather purchased a land and divided some of it among his ten children. So there were plenty of cousins to plot and plan pranks with. There were not alot of presents at Christmas, so we had to invent games and make our toys. This allowed for plenty of opportunities to develope young imaginations.
Too much information?
To answer your question, yes, there were lots of pranks, dares and mishaps. _________________ wwwbess-scretsofaprocrastinator.blogspot.com

| Not so much, just toying with the idea, because some of them are pretty darn funny...I thought of telling them from the child's point of view--as I saw it then...there is a lot more nervous, excited energy in the way a child see a joke than an adult. |

Exactly! Go for it Hiss. It's a big market! Especially if you write for pre-teen, you can incroporate some of your horror ideas. Suppose to be a big market for that type of fiction. _________________ wwwbess-scretsofaprocrastinator.blogspot.com

Flu? Hope you're feeling better. How did that ending go? (to your story) _________________ "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and I could say, 'I used everything you gave me.'"

| does this happen to anyone else....? you have a great idea for a story, you finally get time to start writing it, you sit down to actually start writing and you either forget what you were going to write about or decide that your idea is stupid and don't end up writing anything? why does this happen? |

God hates you. (smile)
Seriously--I think it's normal. I've read about it in writing books, experienced it myself. I think the idea is that you need to write the idea--or at least jot down some heavy duty notes--WHEN you get it. You can always go back and revise when you have more time. _________________ "Throughout history, Truth and Love have always won." - M. Ghandi

I always give a hundred pages or so before I decide whether or not the story is stupid. Let the spark ignite the fire, you never know, you might burn down the world... _________________ "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and I could say, 'I used everything you gave me.'"

Writing isn't always about being read, my friend.
Sometimes, you just have get the dirty water out of the pipes before you can get at the good stuff. _________________ "Throughout history, Truth and Love have always won." - M. Ghandi

Yeah, but it's eerie how right on the money he is.
Write for yourself first and always
Editing is for thinking about others and that should always be done as an after thought for fear of breaking the momentum |

Hyker...yes the dreded FLU!!!
Which story are you talking about?
Amberwaves146...You may think it is stupid, someone else may not. I agree, you may be lacking confidence.
Stop letting your conscience mind censor your creative unconscience. You may not understand or even like what you have written, but keep writting anyway and allow the words to come out. You may surprise yourself. Most of the time your best work will happen this way. During the re-write you can decided what direction you want the story to take or the STORY may decided for you. The point is just to write it. Figure it out later. You learn to write by writing! Just my opinion. _________________ wwwbess-scretsofaprocrastinator.blogspot.com

Bess..great advice to Amber. The stories that are published, even on this website, are usually the result of considerable revision. If people were to read the rough drafts, they would see how disorganized and sometimes incomprehensible the stories start out. (kind of like this last sentence...what did I mean?!)

I was just wondering if you found the ending. I've been in that predicament once too often myself. _________________ "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and I could say, 'I used everything you gave me.'"
