Pet Peeve of the day...

Sending a resume and cover letter to apply for a job and getting absolutely no acknowledgment of receipt.

That is annoying. I wouldnt mind changing my job but i'm afraid to be the "new guy" at a company and then getting laid off. People are freak'n out all over the place.

does a piece of writing so capture the beauty of love that it makes your heart yearn, and sigh with the pure pleasure of it? this piece does it for me:

though still in bed, my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved,
now and then joyfully, then sadly, waiting to learn whether or not fate will hear us.

I can live only wholly with you or not at all. Yes, I am resolved to wander so long away from you until I can fly to your arms and say that I am really at home with you, and can send my soul enwrapped in you into the land of spirits.

Yes, unhappily it must be so. You will be the more contained since you know my fidelity to you. No one else can ever possess my heart. Never Never. Oh God, why must one be parted from one whom one so loves? And yet my life in V is now a wretched life. Your love makes me at once the happiest and the unhappiest of men. At my age I need a steady, quiet life. Can that be so in our connection?

My angel, I have just been told that the mailcoach goes every day, therefore I must close at once so that you may receive the letter at once. Be calm, only by a calm consideration of our existence can we achieve our purpose of life together. Be calm. Love me. Today. Yesterday. What tearful longings for you you. You. My life. My all. Farewell. Oh continue to love me, never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved.

Ever thine.
Ever mine.
Ever ours.

so WHAT is this obsession the new video games have with putting sex into the games? it's not enough that it's everywhere else but now you can't even play a video game without having sex part of your "goals" - there were games i expected it in and then we (actually my son and the s.o.) picked up Fable 2... and gee guess what. you can not only have sex (and, in fact, are supposed to have sex) with as many people as you want, marry as many as you want, you can even decide if you want to have it protected or unprotected... what the heck is that all about? Shocked

can i just say there is something very OFF when the S.O. plays a game, has multiple sex partners (and yes you get to hear them moan and say how GOOD he is), and i'm in the same room having to hear it. grrrr.... hello? i want about 1/4 the attention he gives to the game! you wouldn't see a guy spend 6 hours totally focused on his woman like they do on a video game.

okay so i'm ranting a bit but still... i'm just sayin' Rolling Eyes

I honestly had no idea that video games had sex in them... I knew they had suggestions of sex, but not actually sex. I'm sorry... but I would tell Mr. Gamer that it's insulting and stupid and really dumb to give that much "sexual" attention to a video game when the real think is right there in his living room. What a doof-us!! Slap him a few times for me!

And what a good moral lesson that is... have as much sex with as many people as you can in order to progress or win the game. That sure sends a nice message.

If I were you I would at least have a discussion with your son to tell him that it's insulting and embarrassing not only to the woman he's with but to him... it shows that he's able to just "get off" with any dumb thing on the screen (and I think he probably needs a reminder of that due to past issues).

Must my $.02.

okay... just to make sure you understand (since you did get up on the soapbox for a moment) you don't SEE them do anything... for example, this particular game (Fable 2) part of the game is getting renown point, part of that is wooing the women and/or men and then at some point they want sex, marriage, etc. When you take them to your room, you choose protected or unprotected sex (and can only have protected IF you've picked up the condom somewhere already), then you hear a few things but the screen goes dark. it's not an intense scene nor does it go on for longer than about 10 seconds (if that) - i'm simply bothered by the fact they put it in the games at all.

technically it's not how many you "do" - you can try and avoid them or just not have them follow you to the room (though they may do it anyway). although getting married and having a baby does bring renown. the whole thing though in adding it to a game is weird.

you're right though mudge, they have a market to sell to and that market buys. oddly enough you don't KNOW that that is part of the game until you start playing it. *rolls eyes* maybe i'll go play my sims - they do that in there too.

who wants stupid game allusions of sex when you can have the real thing? LOL

Well, that's better (if "better" is a good word to use here) than what I was thinking you were saying was happening... still...

I have SIMS as well but haven't played forever... but they don't anything... you just say "lets have a baby" and a carriage appears. Then a little while later the kid is about 10 years old.

i have a dilemma. granted it is not exactly life threatening but i ask for your opinions (though i may not take it in the end). how many of you "name" your car? i know my dad did - but he never got personalized plates to make it official. do you have personalize plates? what did you get?

i bought my baby - '04 Pure White Mazda MX-5 Miata last spring. This spring when i renew the tabs I want to give her personalized plates. I have a couple of thoughts - what do you think? you will see a trend - i'm partial to using an x or v or both... but i also think it needs to "fit" me. Smile

VIXXEN
MINX
SPDDMN (ie speed demon)his
SPDRCR (ie speed racer - some variation on this will be necessary to get this plate)
V3NUS (ie Venus)
VNDTTA (ie Vendetta, my son's suggestion)
VETANDA (ie Ventanda - meaning forbidden things)

Any other suggestions?

I agree with Pengy: either of the first two.

I have named every car I have owned up until this one ... which, strangely, is the favorite of all the ones I've owned. Have to work on that.

Scooter calls is "Papa's Big Troika", if that counts ...

But vanity plates? I'm too cheap, and besides, I prefer to veer away from any distinguishing marks on my vehicle. If I ever did get one, I had thought about "FOSAFSN".

Anyone want to take a guess on that one? (and yes, it DOES stand for something ... although I have also thought about just putting some random letters on a vanity plate, just to mess with people's heads...)

My vehicles used to just sort of get names.

One panel truck was "Scooter Boy" because I bolted a motorcycle trophy on the hood.

A van was "Habu 2" because that was all that was left of some stick-on letters on the dashboard. My later vans were called "Habu Class" by my brother.

I also had a houseboat called "Bwot" because that was scrawled on the side in tar when I bought it.

I replaced the VW symbol on the front of my veewee van with a peace symbol and, since I moved to the South but still had California plates and some San Francisco stickers and plaques, it got called "Frisco".

A buddy in Mazatlan had a beat to sh!# old thing people called "El Vehiculo Ridiculo"
But it was a "Safari"...what they called the "Thing" in the states. It was painted camouflage heightening it's resemblance to a Nazi staff car. He got paid to place ads for "Boots" cigarettes on the doors and hood so everybody started calling it "Das Boots".
Don's swipe that one, it's in a novel coming out next month.

My kid brother's Datsun was called "Son of Dat"

Most nicknames come from colors, I think. I remember "The Red Sled" "Brown Dog" "White Trash"

GRRRR! my son is NOT on my good list right now. he managed to get two tickets in one week. one was REALLY stupid but was him misunderstanding as to having to get insurance BEFORE he got his car through emissions. he got the permit - drove it (no plates) towards the emissions station, pulled over for no plates, but had the permit so was all good there BUT no insurance yet....

THEN he managed to get a speeding ticket! about ready to freakin' kick him off my insurance and make him get his own after all. we already pay $200 a month for him. Shocked i may have to kill him!

although he can probably get one ticket deferred... the other he will have to attend traffic school and do community service and they will "waive" it.

We pay about $120 for the teenager... he has to pay part of it though. What we do is split it evenly 3 ways.

That really sucks though because if the insurance company pulls his record... your rates will probably go up. The good thing is that you don't have to tell them to pull his records... it's up to them to do it.

Since poetry is not working for me right now, i figure i'll update this blog (maybe someone will read it and maybe not). Very Happy

I bought a house in March - it is soooo cute and the really cool thing is i loved the paint scheme so no painting for me. Very Happy Decorating is coming slowly as the finances allow.

The boyfriend's car decided to throw a rod - looks like we need a new engine block. It's gonna cost us - sigh... now we have two cars that need engines. thank goodness (knock on wood) MINE still runs consistently. maybe i won't put that turbo in it like i wanted after all... LOL

We adopted a black mini schnauzer - as a playmate for our salt and pepper schnauzer. they are wrestling around pretty hard but it's just play (i hope...) Very Happy

Hey... I read it! Smile

My grandmother had a salt and pepper Schnauzer and her sister had a black Schnauzer. Funny that you now have one of each. Cool

seems sassy and deiter are getting along well. poor sassy - the gal i got her from initially took her in from a friend who couldn't keep her, thought she found a home for her in december and the person ended up giving her back after 3 months. she needs love, food and a haircut (and not necessarily in that order). she has so much hair in her face she looks like a little black sheepdog. she goes in on saturday for her haircut.

i'm taking friday off i just decided - yay for me! Surprised) maybe thursday too (or half a day or something)

sigh... baby steps to healthier living (and hopefully weight loss)

Notes:

1) multivitamins every day with supplements for B and D vitamins

2) eat small meals every three hours (*note to self - chocolate eclairs DO NOT count as a meal...)

3) make every attempt to not eat at least 3 hours before bedtime

4) get out at lunchtime even for just a brief walk around the block

i'm tired of being the one pushing the merry-go-round. when do i get to ride?

sorry it's time to vent - i mean not to totally rag on the ol' man but the ol' man is spoiled and i know it's my fault but unfortunately it is also in my nature to give and give... always listening to his whining or his bragging or his this or that but when it comes to my having a bad day, i get a 2 second listen and then off he goes on his own thing again. if something needs fixing that costs money that HE wants, he gets. oh sure he acts like if i said we didn't need it, he would actually hear me... when all he really wants is a cheerleader. calls me the "financial advisor" but that's only because i pay all the bills and i make more in the finance department. i'd really like a few months from worrying about the day to day crap.

my morning goes as follows: wake up at 6:35, make sure the dogs go out, shower, start the coffee, fix his breakfast and lunch to take to work, get dressed, fix the coffee for him and myself, run out the door to commute in traffic for at least 30 minutes - usually getting to work at 8:30.

his: wake up at 7:15 - 7:25, shower, get dressed and go to work 5 minutes up the road.

hmmm... okay - post-work

mine: leave at 5 (if i'm lucky), commute home in usually a good 45 minutes of traffic, stop at the store and/or get gas in car, pick up the kitchen, start dinner, serve dinner, clean up after dinner, check on the dogs and finally sit down at maybe 8:00

his: leave work at 5, home by 5:10, play xbox....eat dinner....play more xbox...

uh-huh... i need to get me one of ME! Rolling Eyes

Well maybe if you had time to do something for yourself...

You're right... you do spoil him too much and you're reminding me of my mother more and more. Always doing for someone else because that's just what you do. Thing is... if you always do it then why would he ever think to do it himself?

I wouldn't mind having one of YOU around, that's for sure. I would love to be pampered and not have to worry about making my own meals, taking care of my pets or cleaning up after myself. That would be absolute heaven.

Honestly though... if you're going to start eating right then you really can't make dinners the way you have been making them. He will have to start making his own dinners if he wants to continue eating the kinds of foods he wants. You can't make your own special "eating right" dinner and then turn around and make his dinner. First of all... you will be exhausted. Second of all... you will eat what you make for him as well as what you make for yourself.

Just a little FOOD for thought. Razz
