And you too, Xcheck. What's been happening in the real world?

I've allowed life to intrude on the "me" stuff. I couldn't sleep tonight so I decided to hop over here to see what's going on. I tend to forget that the only time I'm happy or feel complete is when I'm writing. Embarassed

I drop by the site every once in a while, mostly to see if Del has updated her blog. I usta really enjoy posting my writing and critting other people's writing. Depressing the way the site has fallen into disuse and neglect.

A bunch of us -- Karma and purty trash -- have migrated to Facebook. Tho' PT is deeply engrossed in med studies and Karma is hanging out somewhere in Pa.

Me, I dodge around Every Day Fiction's writing forum, but there's little point in coming back to Wordtrip unless you like picnicing in a crypt.

Mostly I'm on Allpoetry.com and they have a sister site for stories as well. Lots of instant crit which keeps one fired up and multi contests daily with virtual trophies, etc. I'm Mlou there too if anyone looks for me. Smile

You know, a whole lot of talk about "oh, woe is us, the forum is empty" and not a whole lot of "how do we revive the forum?" talk. No one even trying to stir some conversation or anything.

When i joined, the owners were active and i loved going to the conference meetup in Atlanta... came back with tons of ideas (the supermod forum is full of ideas hiss and i kept throwing out) but its not our site and we were never given the go ahead to do any of it. Classes, pod casts, more get togethers, better ways of having poetry and story crits, ways for WT to actually make money. I am not one to point fingers and i will take the blame where it is mine...but I have to say it was very disappointing and when you don't "own" it, you cant just take over. Tried starting my own site with mslover but that didn't work. And it seems everyone is jaded and let down...and things change. I have gone through quite a bit in the last few years and eventually started writing again...and then stopped and started and stopped...I used to visit this site several times a day... to the point of being obsessive. It was crazy... and active.

I have avoided complaining because I don't, as X said, want to be all woe is me...but I am not so sure I can take on all the responsibilities I had before...trying to motivate and come up with challenges and dealing with the behind the scene bickering between members. I am having a hard enough time motivating myself. I know that no one asked me to start up again... I'm just explaining how I feel when I think of starting things up. I wonder if anyone will bother joining in or if I'll be left talking to myself. Plus... I don't know how much I want to do either.

What i wanted to do with the site we created was to have a much smaller forum base...5-6 areas instead of the huge amount here on WT. Its hard to know which parts of WT to really start with...to get up and running again.

I am on facebook if anyone wants to be friends...I started it using my allpoetry name. If anyone would like to be friends, please send me a note!!! Very Happy

Honestly, I can't keep up with the blogs. I think general discussion forums are easier to use. Wish there were more here...

Yeah, I try and keep up with blogs, but with work blocking them seemingly randomly (I can't get to yours Jamie, but I can get to at least one of Mur Lafferty's and Mary Robinette Kowal's), I like the aggregate & community aspect of forums when I get home and have some time. I also like Google+, and understand others like facebook, but aside from the very cool Writing Hangouts it isn't necessarily a "writing focussed" space. One of the things I loved about Wordtrip in its heyday that set it apart from forums on other topics of interest was that because we were all, to some degree or other, writers the level of discourse was more than the typical three word blurb/chatspeak conversation.

I go to my local Puppetry Guild meeting because it gives me a place where I can have 'puppetry as art form' conversations with people who *get it*. Likewise there are forums like Wordtrip where specific topics can be delved into a little deeper than one is able to with just local friends. While I have a puppetry circle on Google+ it doesn't necessarily foster the same sort of topic specific conversation just yet. On the one hand I want to avoid the echo-chamber of like minded individuals only telling me the stuff I would think of on my own, but on the other hand there is a benefit to being able to start a conversation with enough back story understood by all parties to not have to delve into the 'basics'.

I also like that I can end this here without a real conclusion of any form and that's OK in this context.

I like the forums for the same reason. Anyone can jump in and comment and when the forum topic is, say, writing... then you know that people will be talking about that topic in some way.

I like blogs for individual and personal reasons or for more spot light reasons. I created a writing challenge but only as the place to view them... discussions are not easy in blogs because they can be very one-sided. Forums are more community and a great place to get to know people and everyone has a more or less equal share in the ability to post and get attention. Smile

Hi, everyone,

I was about to go to the NaNoWriMo site but I entered "wordtrip" absent-mindedly.

It's been a LONG time since I have been here, but it is very nice to see the clan is active.

I hope you are having a great new year!
